Amy Renee – Clay Mason Studio
I am a ceramic artist based in the Washburne neighborhood of Springfield, Oregon, where my work is shaped by the quiet persistence of nature and the resourcefulness of my Appalachian upbringing. Born and raised in the Shenandoah region of Virginia, I learned early that if you needed something, you made it. That tradition of practical, handmade living continues to guide my pottery today—functional pieces crafted to be used, lived with, and cherished long term.
My love for long trails has shaped not only my life, but also my studio practice. Hiking the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Camino de Santiago taught me the quiet power of repetition—step after step, breath after breath, mile after mile. In production pottery, I find the same meditative rhythm: centering clay, pulling walls, refining forms, repeating the process until the mind softens and the hands take over. Both hiking and pottery invite me into a steady, grounding flow where patience, endurance, and presence become their own kind of devotion.
My handmade work carries a distinctly bohemian, mountain-inspired style—textures, forms, and colors drawn from ridgelines, riverbeds, mossy switchbacks, and the shifting light on long, quiet miles. These landscapes settle into the clay, becoming vessels that feel both rooted and free-spirited.
