Biobroidery (Meridith McClure) draws on her background in biology and ecology to craft hand-embroidered art. Her specialty is embroidering native plants and birds and using botanical motifs in my work to depict ecological relationships.
Meridith started doing embroidery when I was doing field work in New Mexico in 2016. As I was learning the flora and fauna of the region, I loved trying to embroider botanically-correct plants.
After making a few gifts for family and friends, I made an Instagram for my art, started an Etsy shop named Biobroidery (now a full website), and began doing custom pieces and pop-up markets. Since moving to Oregon in 2018, I’ve shifted my focus to embroidering the native species where I live and work.
