Beautiful Booth of the Month, June 2016

Kwangse & Sanghee Park

Sanghee and Kwangse Park's booth is full of cute! It's also, bright, lively, colorful, funny, friendly and sort of noisy, in a particular way...

Sanghee started selling all natural soaps and some crocheted and knitted items three years ago. After hearing from needle felter Eliel Fionn that she was retiring, Sanghee decided to take a class at the U of O Craft Center and learn to needle felt herself. The result is something completely different than other needle felted toys the Market has seen, a unique combination of crochet and felting combined with a whimsical sense of character and great bright colors.

Husband Kwangse was recruited to join in the Market fun after a year or so, and he started looking around for product inspiration too. He saw thunder gourds at a shop on a trip to the coast and got fascinated. A lot of work goes into them, as the dried gourds need to be cleaned up and emptied before the sound making elements are added and the surface painted and protected. Scroll down below the photos to see a little video example of what the gourds sound like - I bet you can guess, but have a listen anyway...
